Employment cases in the spotlight in 2018

2018 looks to be an interesting time for those with an eye on Employment law as two hotly contested cases reach the country’s highest Court.

The Court of Appeal’s Judgment in a case of regarding Pimlico Plumbers and a Plumber formerly employed by them is due to be considered by the Supreme Court in February.

Sometime afterwards, Uber’s appeal of a Judgment classifying their drivers as workers is also due to be heard by the Supreme Court.

Both cases focus on whether people working for well-known companies are classed as ‘employees’, ‘workers’, or ‘independent contractors’.

While you may think that the difference isn’t important, legally it can often mean the difference between whether or not you receive paid breaks, holidays and even protection from discrimination by an employer.
