Senior Partner and Higher Court Advocate, Family Mediator and Accredited Specialist member of Resolution and Head of Family Department
I am the senior partner at Hall Smith Whittingham. I am committed to enabling my clients to obtain best outcomes in as constructive a way as possible. I am both a solicitor-advocate and a mediator and can offer the most appropriate way to each person of resolving their issues.
I qualified initially as a solicitor in 1980. Since then I have acquired the same rights of audience in civil proceedings as a barrister by becoming a Higher Court Advocate and have been accredited by Resolution as a specialist in Domestic Abuse cases and in Advocacy in proceedings concerning children. People are often anxious about the thought of court proceedings. I can represent people right through from their first meeting with me to final hearing, when necessary.
I am accredited by the Family Mediation Council to deal with all issues in family mediation. I am also qualified to consult directly with the children and to supervise other mediators.
I have been elected to represent 6,000 family lawyers as the National Secretary of Resolution and am a member of the Board of the Family Mediation Council. I share the commitment of Resolution to a constructive approach to family problems.
I give training to other lawyers and mediators on domestic violence issues. I was delighted when the Law Society asked me to write a handbook on domestic abuse for other lawyers. Domestic Abuse: Practice and Precedents was published in 2010.
Outside work I sail a Laser, am a member of the Nantwich Soroptimists and play the guitar in a Praise Group and the flute in a Band.
